PAN Disability League and County Cup Finals

Premiership, Championship and League all decided

The culmination of the 2018/19 Middlesex FA PAN Disability League and County Cup season took place on Sunday 2 June at Goals Ruislip, in what proved to be a fantastic display of football in the Ruislip sunshine.

The event, which took place between 11am and 1pm, saw the league trophy presentations (Premiership/Championship and League) all take place, in addition to County Cup matches being contested on the day.

With QPR ‘A’, Feltham Bees and Ruislip Rangers Red having won the Premiership, Championship and League trophies respectively for their great play throughout the season already, the focus was on whether any of those teams could win a double, or whether it would be another team who would lift the cup.

The Premiership trophy had four teams competing, QPR ‘A’, QPR ‘B’, Feltham Bees and Feltham Spurs. The Championship Trophy was contested by Ruislip Rangers Red, Ruislip Rangers Blue, St Albans City Youth and Whetstone Wanderers, whilst the League Cup saw Ruislip Rangers Yellow, QPR ‘D’, Harrow Stone’s Stars, DASH Amblers and Feltham Bees ‘B’ all go head-to-head.

COUNTY CUP - PREMIERSHIP – QPR ‘A’

This competition was hotly contested, featuring two Premiership teams and two Championship sides making the step up in the Premiership competition. Despite some close matches in the group stages, it was the experienced teams of QPR ‘A’ and Feltham Spurs who battled their way through to the final, where QPR ‘A’ ran out 4-1 winners to win the 2018/19 league and cup double.

COUNTY CUP – CHAMPIONSHIP

The race for the Championship crown started with a strong showing from Green League runaway winners Ruislip Rangers Red,  who won all three of their group games; 2-0 (vs Ruislip Rangers Blue), 4-0 (vs St Albans City Youth) and 3-0 (vs Whetstone Wanderers).

Meanwhile, Whetstone Wanderers went on to win both of their other matches (1-0 vs Ruislip Rangers Blue and 3-1 vs St Albans). Ruislip Rangers Blue won one match out of three and it was a tough afternoon for St Albans City Youth, who lost all three group matches. After two comfortable semi-finals, it was a final between both Ruislip teams, with Ruislip Rangers Red running out deserved 2-0 winners in the final to also celebrate a great league and cup double.

COUNTY CUP – LEAGUE

There were five teams in the running for the League Cup Trophy, and again it was a strong start from Ruislip Rangers Yellow, who won three and drew one of their games (6-0 v QPR ‘D’, 3-1 v Harrow Stone’s Stars, 8-0 v Feltham Bees ‘B’ and 2-2 vs DASH Amblers). Feltham Bees could not match last year’s cup win, suffering two heavy defeats but improving to lose narrowly 0-2 to DASH Amblers, and then win vs QPR ‘D’ (2-0).

Dash Amblers and Harrow Stone’s Stars battled it out to be in the final against Ruislip Rangers Yellow and it came down to DASH Amblers’ last match. Needing a point to qualify for the final and with Harrow having played all of their matches (won two, drawn one, lost one, they battled to a 2-2 draw and went into a second successive final. The final was a tight encounter, and with high drama throughout, Ruislip Rangers Yellow came through in the end to win 1-0 and take the 2018/19 League Trophy.

Thank you to all teams for your hard work through the 2018/19 season and congratulations to all of the teams taking part in the league and cup competitions.

Thank you also to The Mayor of Hillingdon Cllr David Yarrow, Mayoress Mary O’Connor MBE, Middlesex FA Council member and former MFA President, Jim Taylor and London 2012 Paralympian and CP Footballer, Alistair Patrick-Heselton for attending, presenting the awards on the day and for engaging so warmly with participants and wider family members from all local teams.
