Towners win Women's Junior Cup

This season’s Middlesex Women’s Junior Cup final was played at Preston Park, home of Harefield United FC, on Wednesday evening between the reserve tea

The match was absorbing and evenly contested. QPR had a lot of possession and more shots on goal than their opponents but Enfield Town made the most of their chances.

Enfield Town Ladies Reserves lined up as follows: Laura Dyer, Danni Browne, Charlotte Sullivan, Lisa Kline, Kerrie Marlborough, Claire Gooch, Nuala McKevitt (capt), Renice Sherwood, Lizzie Kent, Emma Keyser and Sara Sinclair.

Substitutes: Semma Halil (for Renice 56 mins), Kirsty Johnson (for Charlotte 88) and Olivia Worsfold (for Sara 93).

Queens Park Rangers Ladies Reserves started with: Naomi Swift, Rhiannon Ishmael, Kelly Glynn, Shona Chitate-Samuriwo, Holleigh Marsh (capt), Louise Hayes, Laura Cooper, Charlie Nicholson, Lauren Harris, Chloe Fogarty and Stacey McConville.

Substitutes: Natalie Skiverton (for Shona 67 mins), Vanisha Patel (for Louise 87) and Jamie Townsend (for Charlie 87). Natasha Stephens and Lesleigh Long were not used.

The first 45 minutes were scoreless, although both sides had chances. In the 12th minute a neat nod down by QPR’s Chloe Fogarty set up Lauren Harris, whose shot was parried by keeper Laura Dyer. Two minutes later Laura bravely saved at Stacey McConville’s feet.

In the 18th minute, a goal bound lob from Lisa Kline was headed off of the QPR goal line by Louise Hayes. Then, eight minutes later, Enfield keeper Laura Dyer had to charge out swiftly to beat Shona Chitate-Samuriwo to a long ball. Then, after 34 minutes, Naomi Swift did well to get her finger tips to a shot from Enfield’s Sara Sinclair. Laura Dyer concluded the first half by saving at Chloe Fogarty’s feet.

Enfield captain, Nuala McKevitt, came close to opening the scoring with sharp headers in the 56th and 63rd minutes. The first was well held by the keeper and the second was scrambled off of the goal line.

However, central defender, Kerrie Marlborough put Enfield ahead in the 63rd minute, with a free kick from around 35 yards, which entered the net in the keeper’s top left hand corner.

QPR hit back immediately and a cross from Chloe Fogarty was headed just wide of the post by Stacey McConville. Then Laura Cooper’s low cross was deflected onto the post by a defender. Nine minutes later, Laura headed just wide again, this time from substitute Natalie Skiverton’s centre.

A frenetic goalmouth scramble in the 77th minute ended with QPR’s Lauren Harris hitting the ball over the Enfield bar from close range. The ball transferred to the other end of the field and a tackle by Louise Hayes on Sara Sinclair produced a clear penalty for Enfield and earned Louise a caution. Kerry Marlborough converted the kick to make the score 2 – 0.

Sara Sinclair made the game safe for Enfield in the 85th minute by netting the rebound after Naomi Swift had saved Semma Halil’s effort from Lisa Kline’s cross.

QPR were awarded a penalty in stoppage time for a tackle by Kirsty Johnson on Natalie Skiverton. Kirsty was cautioned and Laura Cooper scored from the spot.

Referee, Stan Stoyanov had a very good game. He was well supported by his Assistant Referees, John Fowler and Adrian West and Fourth Official, Paul Donlevy.

Guest of Honour, County Vice President, John Davies, who presented the trophy and mementoes after the game, selected QPR’s Stacey McConville as Player of the Match.

The attendance was 93.
