DEPORTIVO TRIUMPH IN SENIOR CHARITY CUP SHOOT-OUT

Jim Taylor

The first match in this season’s Middlesex Senior Charity Cup was played on Tuesday, 25th October at the Orchard, when Bedfont entertained their next-door neighbours Deportivo Galicia.  Our roving team covered an entertaining action-packed match, which provided an interesting contrast in styles.

The visitors, playing their attractive brand of passing football took the initiative early and scored in the 15th minute.   They went further ahead in the 38th minute.   Bedfont hit back and scored three minutes before the half time interval.   They equalised three minutes after the interval and pressured the Deportivo defence with their speedy attacks for much of the second half.   However, neither side managed to score a deciding goal and the tie went to a penalty shoot-out, which swung in the visitors’ favour, after they had started it badly.

The visitors made the first serious scoring attempt in the 7th minute.   Naim Mejdoubi picked up a loose ball and set up Anton Panacqines, whose shot was turned over the bar by Bedfont keeper, Sam Bersey for a corner.   Then Juan Devia charged down a clearance and put Sam under pressure in the race for the loose ball.
