MFA Photographer, Chris Benn focussed on the semi-final of the Middlesex Veterans Cup between West London Oldstars Veterans and Middlesex Wanderers, played at Brunel University, on Sunday last, 23rd May.
Oldstars keeper Stephen Albert saves low down
Both sides arrived at this match, after recording hefty quarter final victories, Oldstars 8-0 against Jamrock Vets and Wanderers 13-0 against West London Vets.
A flying save by Wanderers' Ed Thompson
The teams were well matched and it soon became obvious, as an entertaining game unfolded, that we were not going to get a similar goal-fest. Both sides had chances but the first half was goalless.
Tony Fontenelle scores Wanderers' second goal
The first score came 18 minutes into the second half, when Wanderers’ Ivan Spikin smacked the ball into the roof of the Oldstars’ net. Only two more minutes passed before Wanderers made it 2-0, when Tony Fontenelle dribbled in from the right, past two defenders to score. The third Wanderers goal was scored with 9 minutes remaining, by Mario Noto, assisted by Mark Bentley.

The other semi final between London Lions Veterans and Parkfield Youth Old Boys Vets went to a penalty shoot-out, following a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes. Parkfield won this 4-3, so will meet Middlesex Wanderers in the final at Rectory Park on Sunday, 20th June.
