A TIE FIT FOR A FINAL!
Chris Benn completed his coverage of this season’s Middlesex FA Round 1 Cup matches with Shire United’s Sunday Premier Cup tussle with Highgate Albion at NPL Sports Club.
The anticipated highly competitive and entertaining match resulted in a 4-1 victory for Shire United. Mark Bidmead put them ahead, following a solo run, in the 19th minute. Striker Guy Hollis almost doubled the lead 5 minutes later, when his fierce drive bounced down off of the crossbar before being cleared. Guy didn’t have to wait long for his next opportunity, which he took in the 27th minute.
Highgate Albion hit back at the start of the second half. James Esprit scored with a drive in the 58th minute and then Tage Kennedy hit the Shire goal frame. However, Shire United made the game safe with further goals in the 70th and 79th minutes. Their 3rd was a successful penalty kick by Mitchal Gough, following a trip and the 4th was scored by Guy Hollis, who finished following a run down the left by Anthony Oakes.
