Middlesex Prepare for Assault on FA County Youth Cup

Middlesex FA Under 18 Team Manager, John Fletcher, continued his preparations for the forthcoming competitive season with a full-scale trial match at Rectory Park on Sunday last, 6th October. As always, John’s top priority is a successful run in the FA CountyYouth Cup. He has experienced a fair bit of success in that competition during his lengthy spell as our Under 18’s manager, winning the trophy in 2016/17 and reaching the final 2 years previously. John has decided to make this his last season in charge and would like nothing better than to finish with another trophy win.

John divided the 25 players in attendance as follows:-

Wearing Red bibs:-

Harry Cawdron (Gkpr), Bryant Okono Bilongo, Declan Skura (all Hanworth Villa), Barsa Mirtahmasebi (Hayes & Yeading United), Louis Harrison-Sears (Hanwell Town), Felix Amoah (Edgware Town), Tyler Payne (Hanwell Town), Teo Kurtaran, Hassan Habimana (both Hanworth Villa), Lendell Stewart (Hanwell Town), Kevin Nyarko (Hanworth Villa) and Adam Haggag (Uxbridge).

Wearing Green bibs:-

Eric Negaru (Uxbridge) (Gkpr), Adam Holder (Hayes & Yeading United) (Gkpr), Ali Sohrabi (Uxbridge), Michael Koscien (Edgware Town), Jack Warburton (Wealdstone), Albi Balaj (Hanwell Town), Seb Drozd (Uxbridge), Connor Manning (Hanworth Villa), Lonit Talla (Uxbridge), Trevan Robinson (Hanwell Town), Khazil Francis (Edgware Town), Pyerre Clarke (Hanworth Villa) and Eisa Azab (Hendon).

John made some changes between the teams as the match, which was divided into 3 x 30 minute sessions, progressed.

The Red team, which contained nine of the players who had represented us in our recent victory against Bedfordshire in the Rodney Redmond Trophy match, largely dominated proceedings and scored seven goals without reply. Particularly prominent up front for the Red team was Lendell Stewart, who didn’t play in that match. Lendell scored 4 goals and was involved in 2 of the others.

The scoring went like this:-

8 mins. Teo Kurtaran (penalty) - following a foul on Lendell Stewart.

9 mins Lendell –a low drive into the corner of the net from Felix Amoah’s pass.

24 mins Lendell shot high into net, following Kevin Nyarko’s approach work.

56 mins Lendell worked his way through the Green defence before netting.

66 mins Kevin scored from close range after Lendell’s approach work.

70 mins Kevin finished a move involving Felix and Hassan Habimana.

72 mins Lendell collected a loose ball and netted.

Our thanks are due to match officials Mark Sennett, Roger Wheeler and Silvio Fernandes, who each refereed a session (and lined two) and to physio, Gary Strudwick, who looked after the players of both teams.

John Fletcher told the players, in his post-match briefing, that the squad for the first South East Counties Youth Championship match, away to the Amateur Football Alliance, on Sunday, 20th October, would be announced later this week. A stand-by list would also be announced. He emphasised that omission from the selected squad did not necessarily mean that they would be excluded in the future. The squad would be reviewed following each match.

Our 1st Round tie in the FA County Youth Cup follows this game and is scheduled for Sunday 3rd November. We have been drawn at home to Berks and Bucks. This will be played at Uxbridge FC. Kick off is 1pm.
