MIDDLESEX IN ROUND TWO OF FA COUNTY YOUTH CUP

Following their 5-2 victory in round one against Berks & Bucks FA our Under 18 players will now travel to Newton Abbot to play Devon FA on Saturday, 23rd November.

Devon promise to be formidable opponents. They beat London 6-2 away at Bromley in round 1, after going 3 goals up in the first 11 minutes.

We last played Devon in October 2015, also away in the second round FA County Youth Cup, having received a bye in the first round. A quote from my report of the match said, “We eventually won a thrilling match by 6-3, a margin which didn’t do justice to the efforts of the home side.”

Memories of that match include an outstanding display by Keegan Cole, who was named “Man of the Match” by the Devon FA Media Box, an inspiring captain’s performance by Ciaron Brown (who has since achieved international recognition) and the tremendous pressure that Devon put us under for 20 minutes in the second half, while we hung on to a narrow 4-3 lead.

We went on to reach the quarter final that season. We beat Suffolk 2-0 in round 3 at AFC Sudbury but then lost to eventual finalists Sussex at Lancing, on penalties, after a goalless draw.
