Uxbridge Amblers Are Winners Off The Pitch Too

Walking Football team awarded by Kitlocker.com

Uxbridge Amblers Walking Football Club have become the proud winners of a Kitlocker.com award.

The Club Secretary received the notification from Kitlocker, which read:

“Thanks for applying for a Kitlocker.com Grassroots Grant. As you'll have already seen on social media, I'm delighted to say that you have been successful and won a £400 voucher to spend on Kitlocker.com.

“We received hundreds of applications over the last few weeks but yours stood out due to your work in giving the over-50s a route back into the game, as well as the work you have done for charity.”

Amblers members (Silver Foxes) have raised over £12,000 for various charities over the past four years, including £1,000 last Sunday at a ‘Dribblethon’, where 26 members formed a relay team who ‘walk-dribbled’ 25-metre legs. After 5 hours and 48 minutes, the marathon distance was completed – a first in walking football.

Sunday’s event was in aid of the Dementia Friends Group of Hillingdon and the target of £500 was blown away as over £1,000 was pledged. Amblers will now be able to take 50 Dementia Friends Group members to the Beck Theatre in December for their Christmas Memories show.

Upon receiving news of the Kitlocker award, Amblers’ Secretary, Mick Geraghty, said:

“We are very proud and honoured to have won and be recognised for our on- and off-the-pitch activities. Also it's great that at long last Walking Football is recognised as a part of the grassroots family."
