Awarded by The FA, this short 3 hour course provides club representatives, coaches, referees and volunteers with an awareness of best practice in safeguarding children in football. The course supports The FA’s strategic goal to raise standards across the game.

The FA Safeguarding Children Workshop is designed for anyone that works with young people.

Focused on making football safe, the course will help you learn how to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse, while understand fears involved in these concerns.

Section 1: Best practice

Section 2: What is poor practice? What is abuse?

Section 3: What to do about poor practice and abuse

Section 4: What next?


The workshop will raise your awareness and specifically help you to be able to:

  • Identify and build on best practice in football
  • Recognise signs of abuse and identify what behaviour causes concern
  • Identify the actions to take if you have a concern and who can help
  • Develop your action plan for change

Important Information

Learners are required to attend the entirety of the course they have booked onto. Failure to attend the full time will result in non-qualification, late arrivals will face rejection at the door and the individual will need to book and pay to attend the course again in full to become certified.

Yes, you will need to attend this workshop as it is specific to safeguarding in football.
As long as both certificates are dated within 3 years at the time of your start date and completion date of the course, you will not have to attend these workshops.
We are unable to reserve places or take part payments for any of our courses. Bookings are taken on a first come first served basis and full payment is required when booking.
Please contact us directly if you wish to book places on a course for multiple coaches.

If you have previously completed the Safeguarding Children Workshop or the Safeguarding Children: How we Support you can now complete the FA Safeguarding Children Re-certification this is a free of charge course that can be accessed through http://learning.thefa.com. You can also use the guidance notes that can be downloaded here.

If you have previously completed the re-certification qualification you can now do this multiple times.
