ASHFORD TOWN LADIES HIT 25 GOALS IN VITALITY WOMEN’S FA CUP

Ashford Town (Middx) Ladies put on a show

Several Middlesex FA affiliated clubs were engaged in the Second Qualifying Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, on Sunday last, 3rd October.   County photographer Chris Benn visited Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies, who entertained Highworth Town Ladies from Wiltshire.   He witnessed an amazing performance by the home team.

Ashford Town took the lead in the 10th minute, when their captain, Alissa Down netted from close range, following some neat approach work.

Shortly after this goal, the visiting captain, Tamzin Davis, suffered from a recurring knee injury and had to be stretchered from the pitch.   She was replaced by Zoe Bull (15 mins).

Lavana Neufville hits the ninth goal

 

After around 25 minutes play a rainstorm of tropical proportions arrived and continued until just before the halftime interval.   This deluge coincided with a deluge of goals from the Ashford Ladies.

Ashley Cheatley scored the second Ashford goal in the 27th minute and by half time they were 12-0 ahead.

The Ashford Town Manager, Will Boye decided to rest his main strikers, Ashley Cheatley and Lavana Neufville for the second half.   They were replaced by Ellen Clarabut and Megan McGarvey.

There could have been more goals.   Jade and Alissa both hit the crossbar, a goal was disallowed for offside and the Highworth Town goalkeeper, Stacey Radbourne made several very good saves.

Heartiest congratulations are due to the Ashford Town (Middlesex) players and management for a historic victory.    Also, well done to Highworth Town for their sporting attitude and their fortitude in the circumstances.   They thoroughly deserved the applause that they received from the spectators, as they left the field.

Ashford Town will play New London Lionesses in the 3rd Qualifying Round on 

Sunday, 24th October.

The other Middlesex teams playing in this round on Sunday had very mixed fortunes.

Headstone Manor Ladies pushed Biggleswade United Ladies all the way.   They fought back from 3-0 down to 3-2.   Brentford Women were 2 goals up in the first 10 minutes at home to Abingdon United Women but eventually lost 5-2.   Sport London E Benfica lost 6-0 away to Wycombe Wanderers Ladies.   However, Denham United recorded a thrilling 5-4 victory at Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies.
