First Intermediate Cup Finalist Confirmed!

Indian Gymkhana entertained London Samurai Rovers in a semi-final of the Middlesex Intermediate Cup on Saturday last. Indian Gymkhana had reached this stage of the competition by defeating Edmonton Rangers Wolves 2-0 away from home, in their quarter final. London Samurai Rovers were also drawn away and eventually overcame Larkspur Rovers (Saturday) in a penalty shoot-out, following a 1-1 draw.

Gymkhana take the lead from a wind-assisted corner

Although it did its best, a strong wind didn’t spoil a hard fought and entertaining game. However, it contributed to Indian Gymkhana’s opening goal, scored direct from a corner in the 25th minute by Jeyasiva Sivapathasundaram. Although the goalkeeper got his hands to the ball, he could not prevent it entering his net.

Parwinder Kang doubled Gymkhana’s lead 5 minutes before the half-time interval, after being set up by a fine move, involving several of his teammates.

London Samurai Rovers hit back immediately after the interval, through an own goal but there was no more scoring until the last minute of normal time, when Parwinder Kang broke through and netted to make the game safe for Gymkhana.

Indian Gymkhana will meet the eventual winners of the postponed semi-final between Pitshanger Dynamo Reserves and Spartans Youth in the final at Rectory Park.
