MIDDLESEX WOMEN START DEFENCE OF TITLE

Middlesex Women will play their first Southern Counties Cup Competition match of the season at Rectory Park on Wednesday next 23rd October (ko 7.45 pm). It is the opening match in the North Group and is against the Army Women.

The other teams in our group are Essex and the Royal Air Force. The top team in the group will contest the final with the winners of the South Group, which is comprised of Kent, Jersey, Sussex and the Royal Navy.

We are the current holders of this trophy after beating Sussex 4-1 in last season’s final, which was played at Rectory Park. Our goals, in that game, were scored by Ashley Cheatley (2), Chloe Sampson and Anya Kinnane.

Middlesex Women’s first ever match against their Army counterparts was played on 8th October, 2003 at Short Lane, the home of Ashford Town (Middlesex) FC and resulted in a 3-2 win for the Army.

The summary of all of the 16 matches played between the two teams to date is:-

Middlesex wins 7

Army wins 4

Draws 5

Middlesex goals 44

Army goals 26

Our game last season was played at Aldershot Military Stadium and was a thrilling draw, in which we went ahead 3 times but were pulled back on each occasion. Ashley Cheatley scored all 3 of our goals while Libby Dixon (2) and Kelly Aldridge netted for our hosts.
