Middlesex Football Family mourns the passing of Dave Baker

Middlesex FA are saddened by the news of Ashford Town (Middlesex) FC Chairman, Dave Baker's recent passing

Middlesex FA pass on their condolences over the sad death of Dave Baker.

Those involved within Middlesex and Ashford Town (Middx) FC will now doubtless be aware about the sad news that Club Chairman Dave Baker died in the early hours of Wednesday morning at St. Peters Hospital after being re-admitted to hospital over the weekend.  He was 72.

The messages of sympathy and goodwill that have been flooding in, simply illustrate just how popular Dave was at the Club which had become his main focus in recent years following a long career in football.  Dave took over as Chairman and he has worked tirelessly for the Club, being virtually ever present at matches and also becoming the Board Room Chef! Dave took all the ribbing in good heart, especially over his story telling, always word for word as we remembered it from the last time he told whichever story it was, which, on occasions, may only have been 30 minutes earlier!  We loved him all the more for it though and it would not only be the writer who would love to hear one or two of them just once more.

Dave’s funeral will take place on Monday 9 July at midday at Hanworth Crematorium. The procession will leave Ashford Town Football Club at 11.am for anyone who wishes to follow the main car.

Dave was very clear in his instructions in that he asked Ashford people if they would wear Ashford clothing if possible, such as club ties, tops, polos etc. but entirely your choice.  Dave also requested no flowers but donations to his favourite charity, HASAG, can be made on the day. Dave’s family invites you to the wake to be held afterwards at Ashford Town (Mx) FC (Robert Parker Stadium, Short Lane, Stanwell, TW19 7BH) when everyone is welcome.

The Club would like to thank so many of our fellow clubs and Dave’s many friends in football for their messages of condolence following news of his sad death.  Too many to mention but all greatly appreciated.

Middlesex FA send its deepest sympathies to all those who knew and loved Dave, a great devotee to football in Middlesex.  He fought the cancer that enveloped him with everything he had, right to the end and will be sadly missed by all of the Middlesex football family and further afield.  RIP Dave.
