Season Review: North West London League

The North West London League has recently seen the close of its 6th season. Season 2016/17 has seen 7 teams participate in a Premiership Division as well as compete in the North West London League Cup competition. The cup competition allowed an additional 6 teams to participate this season which included Millwall, Victory Hants and Oxhey FC. The league matches took place in the afternoon of the second Friday of the month at Brunel University with the tournament taking place in June.

The NWL League Committee would like to record its gratitude to all clubs and organisations involved this season as well as the committed referees that have enabled another highly successful season.  Middlesex FA Football Development Officer, Kayleigh Saunders, commented on the cup competition:

'I would like to express my pleasure at the competitiveness and impressive skills demonstrated at the cup competition as well as the high standard of sportsmanship on display. It has been a really enjoyable afternoon’s football for everyone.'

The League Champions were presented with their trophy alongside the cup winners at the End of Season Presentation on Friday 9th June. Arsenal CANDI lifted the league title after a tight battle with Riverside Rangers and West London. In the tournament, West London impressed in all rounds of the tournament lifting the cup with a win over Millwall Lions. In the Plate Competition, FAM FC defeated Victory Hants on penalties in a very competitive final.

The North West London League has been providing opportunities for adult mental health teams across London.  The League uses football to promote positive mental health which has seen many positive benefits to its participants, from improved mental and physical well-being, increased motivation and self-esteem. The league aims to reduce stigma around mental health and promote a positive active recovery.

The league takes place on the second Friday of the month from 1pm to 3pm and the new season starts on Friday 8th September 2017. The venue for the league is Brunel University Sports Centre & Sports Park, Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, Middlesex, UB8 3PH.
