Wealdstone and Hampton & Richmond Borough set to meet in rearranged Senior Cup Final

The 2016/17 Middlesex FA Senior Challenge Cup will reach its belated conclusion later this month when the rearranged Final between Wealdstone FC and Hampton & Richmond Borough FC takes place on Tuesday 25th July at the Beveree Stadium.

The match had originally been scheduled for the end of last season, but due to Hampton & Richmond’s involvement in the National League play-offs, the decision was made to defer the match to the start of the new season.

Both teams enjoyed good season’s in the National League South last year, finishing seventh (Hampton) and eighth (Wealdstone) respectively and both will be hoping to set down a marker for the season ahead with silverware from this prestigious cup competition. If last season’s league fixtures are anything to go by, we should be in for an entertaining final. In August, Hampton & Richmond managed a convincing 4-2 win at The Vale, whilst the reverse fixture in April proved to be a more even contest with the teams sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Fast forward to pre-season and preparation for the new season is well underway for both teams with a number of new faces expected to feature in the final, following the confirmation of player eligibility rules by Middlesex FA.

Middlesex FA Chief Executive, Leigh O’Connor said:

“We are incredibly excited to finally have this prestigious cup final played this month. As the tie is set to be played in unusual circumstances (during pre-season rather than at the end of the season),we have spoken to both clubs to avoid any confusion around player eligibility and set rules which we believe give both teams the ability to field the strongest possible squads, whilst respecting the competition rules.”

Tickets for the match will be available on the day and are priced at £10 for adults and £5 concession. Kick-off is at 7.30pm and Matchday programmes will be available on the gate for £2.
