The season’s fixtures all took place at Goals Soccer Centre in Ruislip and provided those who enter the opportunity to play in a structured League system in and around the County of Middlesex. With three adult divisions and a youth division for players of varying abilities, teams from around the County and beyond were able to enjoy games against each other organised by the Middlesex County Football Association.
Throughout the season, the teams have taken part in closely fought competitions across the board and has been a fantastic showcase for the talent within the disability game. The County Cup was the season finale to the County League and provided the opportunity for the teams to compete for another piece of silverware. Once again, the Cup competition was a close encounter with a high standard of play. Jim Taylor, the Chairman of Middlesex County Football Association, was in attendance on the day to present the winning teams with their medals and trophies. The winners of the 2008/2009 season competitions were as follows:
Premiership/Championship League – Spurs Parks FC
Fun Division League – Ealing Mencap B FC
Youth League – Feltham Bees Youth FC
Premiership/Championship County Cup – Spurs Parks FC
Fun Division County Cup – Chelsea Community League FC
Womens County Cup – Hounslow Hawks Women FC
The competition between all the teams is very close and provides the players with a real competitive test of their abilities. The success of the PAN Disability County League this season bodes well for 2009/10 season with the current teams, and possible new teams, looking to re-enter the competition when the season starts in September 2009.
Working to a clear strategy in partnership with the London Sports Forum for Disabled People, the Middlesex County Football Association is building a player pathway for all players with disabilities to be able to access. This builds on the existing MCFA Special Educational Needs Schools League, offering youngsters the chance to participate regularly and the established FA Centre of Excellence which aims to develop the best players between 10 and 17 years old.
