Much of the administration for the league will come back into the Development Team within the office using the administrative support mentioned above.
It is likely given the support that the under 10’s section may well be conducted at central venues giving more opportunities to play without the need for marked out pitches.
At the moment the demand to operate an Under 18 division is limited and we will address this within the next couple of weeks and update you on the situation.
Many of the surrounding leagues (boys & girls) have been operating considerably longer than our own league and the development of leagues is a long term commitment which we are determined to progress over the next four years in line with the Middlesex FA strategy for football development. No doubt there are many views on what should happen, how it affects clubs and individuals and at this stage in its life the MCGL needs to refocus its efforts for the future.
Given the information above we would very much welcome your thoughts and intention to play within the Middlesex County Girls League for next season and have attached the league entry form for season 2008/09. If you would like to apply to the league please complete the entry form and return via email to craig.nicholson@middlesexfa.com
U14 & U16 Girls League Cup Finals
On a beautiful sunny day, the Middlesex County Girls League kicked off their Girls League Cup Finals at Sun Postal Sports Grounds in Watford. In the U14’s final Brentford took on Forest United, in what proved an entertaining affair. After a cagey start by both teams, Forest took the lead but it was quickly cancelled out by a Brentford equaliser before half time. From the restart, Brentford’s centre forward drove straight through the Forest defence and with a cool finish slotted past the keeper into the far corner.
Both teams then had numerous chances and some instinctive goalkeeping from both keepers kept the scoreline tight. Brentford then went 3-1 ahead but Forest pulled back a late goal to make it look as though a late surge would see the game go into extra time. As it was 3-2 was the final score and Brentford crowned victors.
On the adjacent pitch it was a story of two halves. In front of a large crowd Northwood took a 2-0 lead into half time, their first goal an excellent finish from a tight angle by the clubs Number 10. Their opponents St Alban’s City Youth must have had the halftime team talk of their lives; socks pulled up they came out 10 minutes later with a new vigour. An early penalty was awarded to St Alban’s which was coolly converted into the top of the net, and from then on St Alban’s battled away at the Northwood defence.
A second and third were scored in quick succession by St Alban’s, however Northwood never looked out of it and created chances of their own, but couldn’t find the back of the net. The game was sealed by an unfortunate goal against Northwood. With the sun in her eyes the Northwood keeper was caught out by a high bouncing ball and it was all over. Final score, St Alban’s 4-2 Northwood.
